Apple has kept OS X 10.7 Lion and OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion available for customers who have machines limited to the older software, but until recently, Apple was charging $19.99 to get download codes for the updates.
Mac Ios Lion Download
Mavericks was free to download, and Apple has not charged for Mac software since then outside of the legacy Lion and Mountain Lion updates. Apple also used to have OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard available for a fee, but it is no longer purchasable.
Until recently if you wanted to upgrade (or downgrade) old Mac to Mac OS X Lion (from 2011) or Mountain Lion (from 2012) you needed to pay Apple and the company would send you a special download code to use on the Mac App Store.
HELP . CAN THIS BE USED TO repair the mapping on an external hard drive. My ext 1tb will not un mount, I got it going for a moment, due to bad permission in aperture , it wen funny again. The drive shows folders but no files, , I cannot partition it or do I want to? No as my 9 years of photos are on it, Now , I have the lion ox 10.7 on disc and on usb stick, is this the same thing?
Tried this and now i am in the middle of no where. Just lost os and now it just goes straight to recovery and that also does not re install lion :( any ways working on it should be able to find a solution :)
No, as long as you are installing Lion on your own personal Macs, this is fine. Mac OS X Lion comes with a very generous personal license that allows you to install the OS on all of your personal Macs. This method just allows you to avoid downloading the entire package again.
You have 11A511. The App Store version is 11A494. Slightly older version for the older Macs. 11A511 components are downloaded during the install process. See my comment to your other post about option-clicking.
I lost my OSX SL CD. Can I buy and download Lion on my MacBook Air, make a usb-stick like this, and then do a clean install with it on my iMac? Or will this usb stick only be useable on the machine I made it?
you will be able to do an upgrade using this methodon your macs as long as they have core 2 duo ornewer intel processor 2gb of ram or more 8 + gb of harddrive space free I would recommend 40gb + free forbest performance and even though you have downloadedlion using a Mac other than you are installing it on the installerwill still insist you have to be running 10.6.6 or laterand will not proceed with the upgrade unless you are running10.6.6 or later
If you have the foresight to let Time Machine perform a full backup of your Mac before running the Lion installer (but after it has downloaded from the App Store) then you can skip re-downloading the 4Gb file. Just go to Time Machine, visit your Applications folder, find the TM backup with the Lion installer (Install Mac OS X Lion) and restore it. Ta-da! ;)
Is this bootable Lion image something that you can use as an emergency repair disk by adding things like DiskWarrior and TechTools Pro (when they are lion certified)? Or is this bootable image only capable of booting and installing Lion?
On the same topic, if my assumption is incorrect, would my solution be to wait for DasBoot to be lion certified or to install of SL on a new partition, put on lion, slim it all down, and clone it to a thumb drive?
after lion is installed the lion app will disappear from yourapps folder you basically have to extract the installesd.dmgbefore you or the Mac restarts to complete the lion installationalternatively you can purchase lion 10.7.0 on USB rom drivefrom the apple site or apple store for 75 aud yes is a littlemore costly but it gives the security that no one can formatthe drive on you making it a good alternative
There are a number of reasons why you might want to download macOS X Lion 10.7 ISO. You may need to install it on a different Mac, or you may have an old Mac that is no longer supported by the latest version of macOS and so needs to be updated to the latest version.
Downloading macOS X Lion 10.7 DMG File is a process that involves downloading the file, installing it, and then using it. The first step of this process is to download the file by clicking on the link that has been provided in this article or by visiting the site that hosts this file. Once you have downloaded it, you will need to install it on your system so that you can use it.
I had bought this old software because this is what this Mac came with, recently I was updating to High Sierra and the Mac froze, long story short my hard drive died and I had to put new one. They install the new software high Sierra 10.3.2. I bought the software thinking that apple would send it on a disk but it has to be downloaded thru other means, which brings me to the question how do I downloaded directly to a DVD-R disk? without messing with my new software.
Unless you have downloaded Mountain Lion from the App Store in the past, then you cannot re-download it. But if you have a copy of the Mountain Lion installer you most certainly can put it on a USB flash drive. You can also create another flash drive to use for High Sierra. Here's what you do:
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax. It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
Thanks Kappy for your response. At this point all I want is to have a copy on hard disk just in case I have the same problem a encounter before. My Mac originally came with Mountain Lion Software but since my hard drive died there was no way to access the partition were the software was, so the apple authorized dealer downloaded the High Sierra in a new 1T HD.
The company's business is built on the back of broadband and a world in which we download everything from music and movies to upgrades and apps. Apple's decision to debut Mac OS X Lion as a Mac App Store download wasn't unexpected, then, but where does that leave you if your Mac refuses to boot one morning? How do you get Lion roaring again without access to the Mac App Store?
Install Lion on a clean hard drive, and you'll wonder how a 4GB download has come to consume so much space -- it took up nearly 10GB in our case. It's not a bits versus bytes discrepancy that's to blame, but a secret partition created as part of the install process, in which Lion installs a set of recovery tools. This is kept hidden, and appears in neither Startup Disk, which you'll find in System Preferences, nor in Disk Utility. The only way to find it is to reboot, holding alt on the keyboard (marked 'option' on some older keyboards).
To perform a clean install, click your boot drive -- not any of its partitions -- and then the 'erase' tab. Choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the format type and optionally give the drive a name, then click the 'erase...' button. Skip the rest of this section and either reinstall from Time Machine or download a new copy of Lion, as detailed below.
If you don't have a recent Time Machine backup, you'll need to download a new Lion install package. Ensure you have a live Internet connection and pick Reinstall Mac OS X. Utilities will check your eligibility and, assuming it finds no problems, display the end-user licence agreement.
Finally, choose the drive on which you want to reinstall Lion. You won't be able to choose the Recovery HD, as that's the one from which you're running the install process, but your main boot partition will be available. Pick this and click 'install' to begin the download process.
Bear in mind that Lion will download a complete new installer, not just replacements for the corrupted files currently in place on your drive. If you have a peak-hours cap on your broadband, you might want to wait until your service becomes unmetered before completing the last step.
If I look in the app store it doesn't appear that I purchased Lion (since it came pre-installed). I am aware of the internet recovery option but am looking for a way to download the file now so I can recover later without an internet connection.
You can use the Recovery partition or Internet Recovery to download the full installer. The basic method is, tell it to re-install on an external drive, let it download, interrupt it before it reboots your system, then you can grab the DMG file and write it to a USB drive so that you'll have a full (no internet required) installer when you need it.
You can use this to your benefit by rebooting your Mac into recovery and connect a USB drive. Go through the steps to link your Apple ID to that Mac for a Lion reinstall. Choose the external drive for the install. You should be able to catch the process at a reboot and save the 10.7.2 installer for later. Worst case is you miss it and the system deleted the installer application. Just open the App Store and hold option when selecting Purchased. You can generally re-download things once the store knows you get a copy of Lion.
